This idea came to me when I was trying to decide what in the world to make for my mother (Mimi) and mother-in-law (Nana). I have always tried to make them something that is centered around the kids. Then the idea hit me to let the kids draw or paint with fabric paint / crayons and I could make a quilt out of it.
1. Cut 12 by 12 squares out with a quilter’s square.
2. Iron freezer paper to the squares (shiny side to the wrong side of the fabric).
3. Let your kids draw or paint on the fabric. Let the paint dry.
4. Iron the fabric, wrong side up (parents are to do this step, of course).
5. Sew up the quilt and free motion around their drawings in a matching thread.
I used two crib sized (45 by 60 inches) quilt batting, 100% cotton! The feel is much better than just using one. I loved it so much I had to make one for myself as well. Give it a try and make it your own!
